Who Are Episcopalians

The Episcopal Church is part of the worldwide Anglican Communion. Our presiding bishop is the Most Rev. Michael B. Curry. The church is divided in regions known as dioceses. St. Joseph’s is a part of the Diocese of Atlanta, which includes 117 churches in middle and north Georgia. Our diocesan bishop is Bishop Robert Wright.

The mission of the Episcopal Church is to restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ. The church pursues its mission as it prays and worships, proclaims the gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love.

The Episcopal Church is a liturgical church. We have a Book of Common Prayer that includes a variety of services that we use as the basis for our worship.

The church bases its theology on a three-legged stool: scripture, tradition, and reason (which includes experience). We use our minds, our hearts, and our hands to glorify God.
